The 13th International Gold & Silver Symposium (Conferences & Exhibition) will take place in Lima on May 29 - 31, 2018. This event is organized by the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy of Peru2 and its main objective is to promote awareness in the potential of natural resources, particularly gold and silver resources, as well as promote new investment and business opportunities in the region. Also the event will be a superb occasion to gather information about new projects, particularly in the region, markets and price outlook and an overall vision of their influence on the world’s economy.
The International Gold & Silver Symposium is a biennial event, and has already positioned itself as one of the most important international events in the area of mining, geological and financial gold and silver sectors. The 13th Symposium was officially approved by Resolution of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru on July 19, 2017.
In May 2016, the 12th International Gold & Silver Symposium was held with great success. 800 participants representing 16 countries worldwide (Australia, Alemania, Canadá, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, India, Italy, Panama, Espain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Turkey and Peru) attended the programmed conferences, including investors, executives and professionals related to gold and silver mining activities, as well as government officials, analysts, and executives of renowned suppliers of goods and services that are essential for the mining industry.

Peru is the first gold producer of Latin America and the sixth producer of the world. In 2016, Peru’s production was 153 tonnes. In silver the country ranks third among the world’s largest silver producers and the second of Latin America with a production of 4,374 tonnes.
According to estimates of the U.S. Geological Survey, Peru owns 5% of the world’s gold reserves and the 21% of the world’s silver reserves.

In a recent mining event held in Lima, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said: "It is enough to fly over the Andes to realize that Peru is a mining emporium, for millions of years have deposited these riches which give us a tremendous comparative advantage," noting that Peru is only scratching its mining wealth, and that" there are (mineral) for tens and probably for thousands of years."
Nevertheless the aforementioned, the head of state argued that mining is a complex issue for many reasons, the first is the difficulty of discovering underground mining sites for millions of years and then developing them.
Kuczynski also pointed out that mining is complicated for companies because prices are volatile in the international market and it is a capital intensive industry.
